    IAB Real Time advertising Conference Interesting Times: Reaching the programmatic peak. Programmatic has become the norm, offering scale, efficiency, and untapped potential.  In 2014, 45% of all digital display traded programmatically so it seems safe to assume that in 2015 we passed the tipping point and are now in a predominantly automated industry with predictions showing we’ll reach 80-90% in the next few years. Amongst a rapid growth and innovation, human adaptability remains quintessential to the process so to ensure that these interesting times are a blessing to marketers rather than a curse, join IAB's annual RTA conference at the British Museum. Ben Walmsley, Regional VP Northern Europe, will use the theories of eminent German psychologist Gerd Gigerenzer to look at the role that risk plays in human psychology and how scare stories often don’t present the full facts and can mislead marketers into making snap decisions that negatively impact campaigns. While these are real risks, the situation appears to be, in part, driven by the industry itself, which overly focuses attention on the topic and releases scaremongering statistics to support and highlight the issue.   Alongside recent online advertising ‘scare’ stories, Walmsley will use examples from 9/11 and the Department of Health to illustrate why the communication of risk can result in bad decisions and missed opportunities.
